Troubleshooting

Can’t Connect to Telegram Group?

If your GRUP agent isn’t connecting or syncing with your Telegram group, it’s likely due to a permission issue, bot configuration error, or a Telegram setting. Use this checklist to resolve the most common connection problems.

1. Is the Bot Added to the Group?

  • Go to your Telegram group

  • Confirm the bot has been added as a group member

If not:

  • Open the GRUP dashboard

  • Go to the Deployment tab of your agent

  • Follow the instructions to add the bot to your group manually

2. Is the Group Type Supported?

  • GRUP supports:

    • Public groups

    • Private groups (with invite link)

Unsupported:

  • Channels (use cases coming soon)

  • Read-only groups (bot can't engage)

Make sure you’re using a supported group type.

3. Does the Bot Have Admin Rights?

The bot must have admin status to function correctly.

Ensure it has the following permissions:

  • Read messages

  • Send messages

  • Manage messages (if needed for moderation tasks)

  • Add media (for meme or image tasks)

4. Has the Bot Been Previously Removed?

If the bot was removed from the group before, Telegram may block re-addition unless done via invite link.

Fix:

  • Regenerate a new invite link for the group

  • Use that link to re-add the bot

5. Are Group Privacy Settings Blocking It?

Some Telegram group settings limit what bots can do:

  • Check if message visibility is enabled for bots

  • Disable “Restrict bots from reading messages”

6. Is the Agent Live in GRUP?

  • Go to your GRUP dashboard

  • Make sure the agent is toggled to Live status

If not, even if the bot is in the group, it won’t act.

7. Still Not Working?

  • Remove the bot and try re-adding it

  • Try a different group to confirm if the issue is specific to one setup

  • Contact GRUP support or ask Grup Copilot for direct help
